Abstract: Tamil Nadu, with its extensive coastline, industrial infrastructure, and environmental challenges, holds significant potential for developing a robust algae bioeconomy. Algae-based biofuels and bioproducts offer sustainable alternatives to fossil fuels, contribute to climate resilience, and create green employment opportunities. However, commercialization in the region—particularly in urban hubs like Chennai-is constrained by fragmented regulations, limited policy incentives, and infrastructural gaps. The algae bioeconomy presents a transformative opportunity for sustainable development, yet its growth in Tamil Nadu requires targeted policy reform and institutional support. This paper explores the regulatory landscape affecting algae innovation, identifies key barriers to sectoral expansion, and proposes strategic policy interventions to unlock its potential. Drawing on regional policy analysis, stakeholder interviews, and comparative global benchmarks, the study outlines a roadmap for advancing sustainable algae commercialization in Tamil Nadu.
